What attracts birds to your property?

The answer is simple: A food supply that leads to daytime perching and construction flaws or architectural elements that create the ideal environment for roosting and breeding.

There are 3 levels of Bird Pressure: Light, Moderate and Heavy associated with perching, roosting and nesting/breeding.

It’s is unlikely to have birds perching and roosting in the same area.

The evidence of bird issues on your property

Perching: When discussing day perching, you are actually looking at the feeding habits of the birds as they seek out more food from their primary source, humans. While this source could come from direct feeding as passersby throw seeds to the birds, they can also be from restaurants, food preparation or storage facilities, or perhaps your neighbour’s garden which may have a bird feeder. Those flat tops and open spaces, which afford a decent vantage of the surrounding areas and protection from the elements also offer the perfect location for pigeons to breed.

Night Roosting: On the other hand, the night roosting can be considered a more significant issue as it leads to the accumulation of pigeon droppings. Because pigeons are usually looking for a food source during the day, their roosting is usually localized in shorter terms, however, the birds can roost for up to 16 hours. In these cases, the feces can have significant accumulation. Determining the primary reason for roosting on your property is the first step to determining your method of exclusion and remediation. Pigeons don’t generally roost on a building for both food and shelter.

Nesting: With many species for pigeons mating for life and the male bird participating in the rearing of young squab, nesting pairs can cause significant damage to your property. Though many nests would be considered simple and flimsy by many standards, the most important element to remember is that they stay together, trying for as many as four or five broods so even if they only have a few young per brood, the damage will multiply. Most nesting birds will find their way to building ledges, rafters, beams, and under bridges or inside barns or attics and other locations with a high vantage so they can continue to search out new food without straying far from their young. Evidence of their nesting can be found from the sticks and other material strewn about as well as the accumulation of feces.

Droppings: Not only are pigeon droppings an unsightly mess which may be difficult to remove, but they cause hazardous slipping risks and they harbor several human pathogens.

How do I know if I have a problem?

Flocks of birds – if you regularly notice flocks of pigeons around your property. Nesting materials – twigs, grass and sticks are usually used to make a nest Bird droppings – large amounts of droppings found near your building could mean birds are roosting on your property.

Can I solve it myself?

You need a professional to determine a severty level of your problem and get recommedations. There are a lot of cases where light level of infestation can be eliminated by limiting food supply, however there are a number of severe cases where only professional help can completely eliminate birds and prevent them from coming back.

How to deal with protected species?

Most pest birds are not protected species. If you notice pigeons, sparrows starlings, etc we will help you eliminate those. We can obtain a permit to remove protected species here >>

I notice a lot of bird droppings. Is it safe to clean it up myself?

Birds can carry pathogens that cause respiratory difficulties and bacterial illnesses. People with weakened immune systems or immune system disorders, are especially vulnerable. Birds also carry parasites such as fleas, ticks and mites.

Bird excrement in building ventilation systems is also a danger, as residents or employees can breathe in toxic spores from the bird waste. That is why we take bird exclusion and decontamination very seriously..

How do you prevent birds from coming back?

We carefully examine your property for the main causes of bird infestation and eliminate those by: limiting food source, installing deterring devices and fixing construction flows that create a favourable habitat. Our team offers custom solutions that are different for every property
